Weissman is currently Associate General Counsel for Time Inc. where, for the past 3 1/2 years, he has been counseling various magazines on editorial, marketing, advertising and general business matters, including pre-publication review of MONEY, BUSINESS 2.0, TIME, PEOPLE and SPORTS ILLUSTRATED magazines, and negotiating and drafting writer, subscription promotion, partnership marketing and other agreements. In addition, he is primary counsel to Time Inc. Interactive, the online division of Time Inc., where he provides legal support for the development, hosting, operation and maintenance of the magazines' Web sites including, content review and compliance with privacy and related laws. Weissman also advises on new technology initiatives, such as digital magazines, mobile telephone programming and other non-print distribution of Time Inc. content.
Prior to joining Time Inc., Weissman was Executive Director, Legal and Business Affairs at iPublish.com, the ebook publishing start-up of the Time Warner Book Group. While there, he oversaw all legal matters relating to the company's publishing activities. For 18 years before that, he was at Random House, where he was involved in all aspects of its educational, children's and general trade publishing operations including, contract, real estate, litigation, antitrust, Internet, and intellectual property and libel matters.
Weissman received his J.D. from New York Law School (1979) and an LL.M. in Trade Regulation from New York University School of Law (1982), where he was a Donald L. Brown Patent Fellow. He has served on numerous committees at the Association of American Publishers (including Co-Chair of the Task Force on Availability of Digital Materials for the Blind and Disabled (1998-200)) and the New York State Bar Association (currently a member of the Special Committee on Cyberspace Law). Weissman has also been a member of the Copyright Society of the USA since 1981, including as a Trustee (1995-1997) and Chair of the New York Chapter (1997-1998). Weissman lives in Manhattan, New York with his wife and two daughters.
